Progress report on the translation of AA literature into Ghanaian languages. On the recommendation of AA friends in the U.S.A. the fledgling AA Intergroup in Accra, Ghana is pursuing the translation of "the Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous and some AA pamphlets into several Ghanaian languages. We have received permission from the AA World Service to begin translating a part of the Big Book. As of November 1, 2007 the following AA literature has been translated into the Twi language, the most widely spoken vernacular in Ghana: Chapter 5 of Alcoholics Anonymous, This is AA, A Newcomer Asks, and 12 Steps Illustrated. The World Service Office of AA in New York City is currently reviewing this material in preparation for printing. Several pieces of AA literature have also been translated into Ewe, another widely spoken Ghanaian language. These pieces are: Chapter Five of Alcoholics Anonymous, This is AA and A Newcomer Asks. These will be submitted to the WSO soon. We sent over $2500 worth of AA literature to Ghana on October 9, 2006. Copies of Alcoholics Anonymous and 12 Steps and 12 Traditions were given to each of the 29 library staff who came to The Books For AFrica Library Project's Annual In-service in January, 2007. This fall Books For Africa Library Project shipped over $1000 worth of AA literature to Ghana with the container of library books. Money was provided by Attitudes Ghana and Books For Africa Library Project.
